'Appy Days! App Development for Ferndown Upper School Students

Students at Ferndown Upper School have benefitted enormously from the ICT equipment funded by the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

They have spent many lessons practicing developing apps for interfaces on these touchscreens. JTYAF support has allowed seven students to use technology they would never have been able to access otherwise.

As part of the Digital Technology BTEC students not only design user interfaces, they can create actual working applications thanks to this financial support. This has enabled them to develop improved coding and project management skills that are beyond what would be expected as part of the normal curriculum delivery.

One of the beneficiaries of the funding commented, β€œIt has been really fun, I have learnt loads of new things including how to make interfaces.”

One of the students has designed a working touch screen interface using a Raspberry Pi, a touchscreen and Python coding language.
