Christmas with Boscombe Youth Fiddle Orchestra
/The JTYAF was invited to a Christmas Concert at St Peter’s Church in Bournemouth where the John Thornton Music Scholars performed solos and received their certificates and Award Winners Badges. The students ranged from age 8 studying Grade 1, to age 16 years studying for Grade 8. Their performances were of an incredibly high standard and it was a wonderful start to the Christmas Festivities.
John’s Foundation has been providing Music Scholarships for talented young musicians from the Boscombe Youth Fiddle Orchestra (formally the Coda Fiddle Orchestra) since 2010. The scholarships support the students musical development by funding 1:1 tuition, sheet music costs and exam fees. Over 100 awards have been made over the last 14 years and a number of the award winners have received support for several years, which has nurtured and inspired them as musicians, many going on to Grade 8 and even studying music at university.
Many of these young people would not have the opportunity to enjoy learning a musical instrument without Jack Maguire and his dedicated team at the Boscombe Youth Fiddle Orchestra and here at the JTYAF we are delighted to support this fantastic project.
