Ferndown Guides To Visit Ypres

The JTYAF is supporting a trip to Ypres for eight Guides and six Young Leaders from Ferndown, by funding the coach hire for the day.   The group will be visiting the trenches and museums and will take part in a poignant evening ceremony where they will gather at Menin Gate for the Last Post at 8pm and lay a wreath.

We are proud to support the Guides as they commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the First World War.  Katie Legg one of the Young Leaders explained what they hope to gain from their experience,

We aim to strengthen the Guides understanding and appreciation of this important historical event and show the link to our Remembrance Day services.  We also want to highlight the true meaning of loyalty, respect and commitment.

There will be many commemorative events and services over the next four years, which will give us all the opportunity to honour those who served, to remember those who died and to ensure that the lessons learnt live with us for ever.

Lest we forget
