John Thornton Music Scholarships presented at Ferndown Upper School
/The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation was delighted to present music scholarships to three talented students from Ferndown Upper School. The scholarships will support their musical development by funding instrumental lessons, exam fees, orchestra/band subs, sheet music etc.
This new scheme was suggested and organised by Head of Music, Clare Whitehead, who invited applications from musicians in years nine to twelve. Sabrina Beever, Ben Kinch and Gary Scagell, (pictured above from left to right) must be congratulated on their achievement as there was intense competition for this support.
Gary and Sabrina are both talented pianists and Sabrina aims to follow her passion for music with a degree course at university. She will be using her award to fund Grade 8 exams in both piano and singing which will help her in the pursuit of her ambition to become a music teacher.
Ben plays cornet and trumpet in the Bournemouth Youth Marching Band, FUS Orchestra, FUS Jazz and the Wessex Youth Fanfare. He has his sights set on joining a military band and has already attended an 'Insight Day' with the Royal Artillery Band.
We wish Ben, Sabrina and Gary every success in their musical careers and look forward to hearing them play during the coming months.
