JTYAF Award Beaucroft Foundation School £5000

Pete Thornton was delighted to present Beaucroft Head Teacher, Joe Barnett, with a cheque for £5,000, which will support enrichment activities for his students.

The JTYAF has been supporting Beaucroft Foundation School for 12 years now.  Students have moderate learning difficulties, and many have additional complex difficulties and/or disabilities, mainly autistic spectrum disorders or sensory impairments.

The JTYAF visited the Beaucroft Café in Wimborne to present the cheque.  The café is doing extremely well and is now open 3 days a week. Beaucroft students are actively involved in the preparation work required for opening each day. They also bake cakes, prepare sandwich fillings and set up the cafe to be ready to receive customers. When the cafe is open, students have the opportunity to carry out various roles from taking orders, serving customers and clearing tables. Each week, 15 students receive invaluable work experience at the cafe as well as interacting with the public and playing an active part in the community.

We can recommend the rhubard and custard cake - it’s absolutely scrumptious! If you’re in Wimborne and fancy a coffee it’s definitely the best place in town. (In our opinion - other cafe’s are available!)
