Jubilee Award supports new Student Hub at Ferndown Upper School

As part of this year’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Awards, the JTYAF made funding available to local schools for special enrichment projects aimed at supporting the mental health and well being of the children.

Ferndown Upper School was allocated £6000 to provide a new Pastoral and SEN area (Student Hub,) and we are delighted to see the results of this funding. Thes Student Hub will provide a dedicated area offering student support from qualified staff, which will benefit students from Year 9 to Year 14.

We were delighted to receive this message from the school:-

We are very grateful to the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation - Linda and Pete Thornton for awarding £6,000.00 towards these new facilities.

The FUS Student Hub has provided a professional working environment where all the staff who support the well-being, mental health, educational needs, attendance, behaviour support, as well as SEND are located. By locating, all of the support together this has helped the students from Year 9 to Year 14 get any support that they need to improve their outcomes at school.

We have 3 dedicated rooms created for student support as well as all the facilities provided by the Learning Centre support next door for primarily SEND students, but where all students can get support if needed. The Learning Centre section of the Hub has provided a friendly, safe and supportive environment for students to work, get support from qualified staff and improve their learning in all aspects of life.
