Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club
/Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club has received a JTYAF award for £1200 to purchase a surf ski and paddles.
The club has over 120 active members from the youngest nippers aged 7 to 13, youth aged 13 to 16, seniors aged 16 plus, right through to masters. They train all members in essential life saving qualifications from basic first aid to CPR, water rescue techniques and use of a DE fib and Oxygen, with many of their 16 year olds going on to work for the RNLI through the summer season.
The surf ski will provide their Youth Section with an introduction to being on a craft in the water, an important progression towards the Senior Section that utilises inshore rescue boats. It will also offer a new challenge and with the British National Surf Life Saving Championships coming to Branksome beach in 2019 and 2020 they will be able to enter surf ski races.
We are delighted to support this application and wish the young life savers every success for the future.
