Trip to NASA for Gold D of E Students

The JTYAF is delighted to contribute towards the cost of a trip to the USA and NASA for another group of 5 students from Victoria Education Centre.

In 2017 the first ever group of 5 students completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award with a residential trip to the International Space School Educational Trust, at NASA in America. The trip was such a huge success that 5 more students will have this exciting opportunity this summer and the JTYAF is proud to support them again.

The students will get to go behind the scenes at Kennedy Space Centre, meet and learn from NASA astronauts, go to a theme park, go skydiving, visit a planetarium and look at the night sky through a giant telescope at the NASA Observatory. They will even have dinner with an astronaut!

Many of the students have life limiting conditions such as Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and the majority are wheelchair users. This trip ensures that their disabilities do not affect the opportunities that are open to them. The students began their Duke of Edinburgh’s experience in the New Forest and to finish it with NASA will be a fitting end to a programme that has literally changed their lives forever.
