Morven Smashes Fundraising Target with 22K Swim Challenge
/Morven took part in this year’s Air Cadet Junior Leaders Course and as part of the course organised a fundraiser for John’s Foundation. She absolutely smashed her fundraising target of £250, raising an incredible £866.25. We can’t thank Morven and her friends and family enough for their kindness and generosity. Special thanks must also go to Morven’s sister for swimming the final leg too.
Morven’s original plan was to swim 22Km over 7 days in her local pool. She intended to begin her challenge on 30th March, the day John was killed, and 22Km was significant being a kilometre for each year of his life.
Covid-19 happened and although the pool was no longer available Morven was determined to complete her challenge. She decided instead to swim across all four of the Churchill barriers in Orkney (reverse order) and then completed the rest of the distance as a walk from the first barrier to Inganess Bay.
Morven told us:-
I loved doing it so much and was extremely grateful for everyone’s support and donations. It ended up being one of the warmest days for us up in Orkney which was a bonus to not feel as cold coming in and out of the water. Along with being able to have my sister swim the last barrier with me to help dodge the creel ropes and jellyfish.
Huge thanks from everyone here at the JTYAF! Your fundraising will help us to continue to do the work we do supporting young people.
