Thomas Raising Funds with a Head Shave
/Thomas’s Story
This time last year I was in Ghana on Exercise Maroon Eagle. This expedition was extremely successful as we completed two Junior High Schools for the villages of Obom and Abenta. This would not have possible without the support of two charities: the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) and Village by Village. The latter of which is the most profound as they were the in-country NGO that supported and accommodated our team.
Village by Village employs local Ghanaian s to run their operations (https://villagebyvillage.org.uk/). They are a fantastic and very cheerful bunch of people that really made my trip to Ghana x10 the experience. This fundraiser's focus is on them as during these difficult times of COVID-19 these guys are still working to support their communities and their families.
I want to raise some funds for JTYAF as a thank you for the Scholarship that enabled me to go to Ghana. JTYAF is a brilliant little charity (https://www.jtyaf.org/) and I hope whatever I raise can help them to continue their good work.
Initially, I was prompted to do this fundraiser after seeing an article that said 'Almost half of UK charities working with the world’s poorest are set to close within the year.' I do not want this to happen to Village by Village!
I plan on shaving my head, which hasn't been touched since going into lockdown in March. My beard however is staying. Unless someone donates a compelling sum. The occasion will be videoed and at the end of my shave, I am going to send a personal message to the Ghanaian team along with personal messages from the other volunteers that were there.
Thank you for reading and I hope I can count on your support!
